The Saint-Justin Montreal school could be expanded to more than double its capacity

The Quebec Ministry of Education gives the green light for the expansion of Saint-Justin primary school in Montreal, a project which amounts to $34 million and whose timeline is unknown.

A new wing will be built and 18 new classes will be added, as well as a gymnasium, specialized classes for drama and visual arts, a library and a creative laboratory. The school’s capacity will increase from 387 students to 944 students.

“This expansion project is of great importance: families and citizens will soon have a school capable of welcoming more children from the neighborhood, a modern school, in their image,” we can read in a letter sent to parents.

Students and staff members are currently relocated to an annex on rue de Teck, and they will be able to return to the school once the work is completed. The construction “should begin soon, while the [centre de services scolaire de Montréal] finalizes the administrative procedures linked to the awarding of the contract,” it is specified.

It is not possible to know the completion date of the work, “because there are too many unforeseen events in the construction industry and we want to avoid creating expectations on the part of parents,” indicates the spokesperson. word, Alain Perron.

The annex on rue de Teck will subsequently be able to accommodate students from the Louise-Trichet secondary school, currently overcrowded.
