Wearing a seat belt in the car has been compulsory for 50 years. However, nearly one in four people killed in a car were not wearing it. Road safety is launching a necessary recall campaign.
On board a car are four dummies for a safety test. In the front, one of them is not fastened, in the back, a dummy child is wearing his belt incorrectly, placed under the arm. In the hangar, the vehicle is launched at 50 km/h against a wall. Result : the person not attached to the front has seriously hit the dashboard and is in serious danger of dying in the impact. In the back, the head of the unrestrained child also hit the seat in front of him. He therefore has a good chance of dying or having very serious injuries in the shock.
28% don’t buckle up on short trips
The crash test was carried out to remind the importance of the seat belt. Last year, 24% of people killed in cars were not wearing them. A figure that has been increasing for a year. Seat belts became compulsory at the front in 1973, then at the rear in 1990. It ended up imposing itself between caution and repression. According to road safety, 28% of drivers admit that they sometimes fail to buckle up during short journeys.
