Russia detonated on Monday, November 15, an old satellite during a test firing, causing a lot of debris and forcing the seven astronauts from the ISS to take refuge in the vessels docked at the station for several hours. The United States and France condemned this act.
The incident has taken a diplomatic turn and Russia is now accused of taking reckless risks. On the morning of Tuesday, November 16, NASA had to ask the seven astronauts aboard the International Station (ISS) to take cover. In fact, 1,500 pieces of debris from a satellite, which had just been sprayed by a Russian missile, were spotted by the station. Three crew members joined the vessel Soyuz, and the other four astronauts joined the capsule Crew Dragon, ready to undock if necessary and reach Earth as quickly as possible.
In the afternoon, the astronauts were finally able to reach the heart of the station. The NASA spokesperson denounced Russia’s irresponsibility. “These tests will lead to a significant increase in the risks for the crew of the ISS. Russia’s dangerous and irresponsible behavior jeopardizes the long-term viability of the space“said Ned Price.”Space raiders have an overwhelming responsibility in generating debris that pollutes and puts our astronauts and satellites at risk“, for her part declared the Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly. The Russians, for their part, deny having endangered the crew of the ISS.
