Like all other conflicts, the war in Ukraine is not only fought on the ground. It is also a communication war. Example at Lysychansktaken by the Russians on July 3. In this town of Donbassweapons were exhibited as in a museum. Many, sometimes supplied by NATO, were stolen from the Ukrainians. A way for Moscow to show its successes and restore its image in this conflict initiated almost five months ago.
Explanatory panels, soldiers to answer questions, and even flags to try to give a festive look. These images from a gun show in Lysychansk are hardly believable. The city has just been ravaged by war. As visitors, inhabitants who have just come out of their shelters, after weeks of fighting. Lysychansk is the last major city taken by the Russians. The spoils of war are the weapons captured from the Ukrainians, from the most modern – drones – to antiques.
The Russian army is keen to show the weapons supplied by NATO. The objective here is to show the successes of the Russian army. The highlight of the exhibition is around twenty well-aligned tanks. Barely repaired, they resumed service, this time against the Ukrainians. The equipment is welcome for pro-Russian separatists, proud to have taken the city but not without loss. “Many comrades died. They showed their fangs there, hard. The price to pay was high. It’s hard“, testifies one of them.
