In Poland, the Russian ambassador received red paint in the face when he intended to lay a wreath to commemorate May 9. For its part, Latvia reaffirmed its support for Ukraine.

Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreyev wanted to lay a wreath in Warsaw in honor of May 9 commemorations. He was targeted by pro-Ukrainians who threw red paint in his face. “See what Ukrainian propaganda is good for you. I’m proud of my country and my president”, did he declare. Since the beginning of the war, to flee the fighting, more than three million Ukrainians have found refuge in Poland.

Latvia is concerned about the situation in Ukraine. “We are at the side of attacked Ukraine, and we support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union”, says Latvian President Egils Levits. Entering the EU 18 years ago, Latvia is taking advantage of this anniversary to show the way to the Ukrainians.

German troops were parachuted into Lithuania. 200 paratroopers were dropped as part of an international NATO exercise, a strong symbol on the occasion of May 9th. A total of 9,000 troops were airlifted to the Baltics and the Balkans at the same time. This should make it possible to consolidate cooperation between the armies of the 17 NATO countries and its partners.
