In front of the increase in prices, more and more French people are changing their consumption habits and are turning to distributor brands, on average 24% cheaper than their competitors.

Less expensive, less known, but they are taking up more and more space in shopping carts. Private labels are popular with consumers. “Distributors do as well as the big brands on certain products, sometimes even better”says a customer. “Since everything has increased, we have no choice but to take the equivalent of the brand”says a woman. LeclercCarrefour, but also Super U, each distribution brand has its own brand.

They are on average 24% cheaper than the average of other products. Thierry Destrainspokesperson for System U, performs a demonstration on jams. A well-known national brand, the price per kilo of this strawberry jam is 4.54 euros and its equivalent for the private label is 3.33 euros”he demonstrates. Despite this, the price of private label products has increased by more than 10% in one year.
