For its 44th edition, Cinemed is relaying the rumblings of the Mediterranean until October 29 with more than 200 films screened, meetings, master classes, tributes and retrospectives.
“Cinemed mixes the magic of cinema and the soul of the Mediterranean, with its contradictions between machismo and the rights of women, Jews and Muslims, the issues of migration, youth, clandestinity“, said the president of the festival, the former mayor of Palermo (Sicily) Leoluca Orlando, during the presentation of this 2022 edition.

The official competition jury will be chaired by former Manchester United star turned film and theater actor Eric Cantona, born in Marseille, and his wife, actress and director Rachida Brakni, born to Algerian parents. That is to say if the Mediterranean is represented.
Documentalist Simone Bitton, who has been exploring the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for over 30 years, will also be a guest at the festival. The Spanish actress and director Icíar Bollaín will present his new film The Repentants (Maixabel), inspired by a true story between the widow of a politician assassinated by ETA and two of his assassins.
Finally, the “young guard” of a Georgian cinema with a rich heritage will be honoured, as will the committed work of Italian filmmaker Francesco Rosi (The Mattei Affair), who would have been 100 years old this year.
