The rules surrounding the vaccine passport at the municipal council of Quebec make Marchand uncomfortable

The obligation for citizens who will attend the municipal council to present their vaccination passport makes the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, “very uncomfortable”. With the approach of the return of council meetings in front of the public, he hopes to see the Legault government change the rules.

Remember that starting next Monday, the cities will again be able to hold their council meetings in person and in front of the public, but at 50% capacity.

According to the most recent directives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, residents on site must present their vaccination passport.

However, this obligation does not apply to elected officials, deplores the mayor of Quebec. “I am very uncomfortable having to ask a citizen to show me his passport if they don’t ask me. I am not against the passport. It’s just that this “double standard” annoys me,” said Bruno Marchand on Monday, on the sidelines of an announcement on his budget priorities.

According to a guide sent by the ministry to the municipalities on February 4, elected officials do not have to present their vaccination passport because they “are in their workplace”.

The resumption of council meetings at maximum capacity is scheduled for February 28.

Further details will follow.
