Usually in her small farm in peasant and organic agriculture with breeding, cultivation of vegetables and small fruits, Emilie Deligny offers the direct sale of eggs, seasonal vegetables, lamb, syrups…
But this year was a particularly difficult year for the Rudé farm in Parleboscq (between St-Justin and Montréal-du-Gers), first with an episode of hail in early June which severely damaged all the outdoor market gardening, then with this summer’s drought that burned the prairie and a grass that is not about to grow back for the sheep.
Fortunately, last winter, Emilie Deligny had planted 1000 small trees and hedges to diversify the sheep’s food and most of them resisted.
positive points
On the positive side, we also note the greenhouse of the Rudé farm which was preserved by the hail and which made it possible to harvest tomatoes, zucchini, peppers and a few green beans. On the other hand, all the beans planted outdoors were destroyed.
The tomatoes have done well this year, and for next year, Emilie has dried some in the sun and is soaking up olive oil.
For several years, rather than making jam with unsold fruit, Emilie had preferred to start making syrups, of which she had become a specialist: raspberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, verbena and elderberry syrups, but the dryness of this year destroyed everything.
Despite everything, every Sunday morning, Emilie is present with her excellent organic products at the Gabarret market.
