the royal family unveils the first official portraits of the king since the ceremony

Crown on his head, dressed in his ermine mantle and holding his scepter in his hand. The British crown unveiled, Monday, May 8, the first official portrait of King Charles III since the ceremony which formalized the start of his reign on Saturday.

A word of thanks

The royal family also released a portrait of the couple, along with a word of thanks from Charles III. “My wife and I would like to extend our most sincere and warm thanks to all those who contributed to making this event such a special moment.writes the sovereign. Knowing that we have your support and encouragement, and witnessing your kindness expressed in so many different ways, has been the greatest coronation gift.”

The sovereign became king of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth countries, from Canada to Australia to Jamaica, in September 2022 on the death of his mother Elizabeth II, at the age of 96. But he, and his wife Camilla, were not crowned until Saturday at Westminster Abbey in London in a Christian ceremony full of pomp and solemnity.

Highlight of this event which had not taken place since 1953, the Archbishop of Canterbury placed on the head of the 74-year-old sovereign the crown of Saint Edward, in solid gold and set with rubies.
