The Rouge et Or of Laval University win the Vanier Cup

The Université Laval Rouge et Or won the Vanier Cup 30-24 over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday, becoming the Canadian university champions for the 11e times, a record.

The Quebec institution had not triumphed since 2018.

The Huskies also reached the ultimate game in 2021, losing to Western — the site of the final this year.

The University of Saskatchewan had been chasing a first title since 1998.

The Huskies are 0-3 against the Rouge et Or in this event, including 2004 and 2006.

Vincent Blanchard was five for five in field goals, including a 25-yard completion that brought the score to the final account, with 1:56 to go.

Blanchard had a 49-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Saskatchewan came close to 27-24 with a three-yard touchdown reception from Daniel Wiebe, with 4:58 on the clock.

Shortly before Blanchard’s 25-yard field goal, Antoine Dansereau-Leclarc made a very big play by catching a 57-yard pass from Arnaud Desjardins.

Jean-William Rouleau added a sack during the Huskies’ last climb. An incomplete pass was followed, which gave the ball back to the Rouge et Or with nine seconds to go. The Glen Constantin group would soon be able to celebrate.
