The Rouge et Or advance to the Vanier Cup final

The Université Laval Rouge et Or came from behind to defeat the Western University Mustangs 27-20 on Saturday in the Mitchell Cup.

The Rouge et Or will participate in the Vanier Cup for the first time since 2018, when they defeated the Mustangs 34-20 at Telus Stadium.

Glen Constantin’s men will face the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in the 57th Vanier Cup final, to be played next Saturday in London, Ont.

The Huskies, who haven’t won top honors since 1998, edged the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men 36-19 in the Uteck Cup.

The Mustangs defeated the Huskies 27-21 last year to win the eighth Vanier Cup in franchise history. The Rouge et Or will be aiming for an 11th title.

Laval University trailed 17-4 at halftime, but scored 23 points in the second half to defeat the Mustangs on Saturday.

During the Uteck Cup, the Huskies managed to distance themselves in the fourth quarter thanks to touchdowns from Daniel Wiebe and John Stoll.

Wiebe had a 41-yard catch for a major while Stoll intercepted a pass from quarterback Silas Fagnan before returning the ball to the end zone.
