Montreal should be able to benefit from an Olympic Stadium equipped with a new fixed suspended roof and a lighter technical ring from 2028. Its total price will not exceed 870 million, we promise.
As with the previous roof, the new rigid steel and elastomer roof will remain supported by 24 cables connected to the mast. White in color, it will be bordered by a translucent part which will let in light if it does not retract completely as planned at the time of the original design of the stadium.
Closed since the end of the year for assessments, the stadium must immediately go into work mode. This year will be devoted to dismantling the existing roof and the technical ring. The construction of the new technical steel ring will take place next year, while the assembly, assembly and installation of the roof will take place in 2026 and 2027, for an official opening the following year.
Carried out in “collaborative” mode with a consortium formed by the firms Pomerleau and Canam, the project will remain under the responsibility of the Olympic Park and the government of Quebec. Its cost of 870 million must cover all expenses, including possible overruns.
