(Laval) By virtue of a loss to the Rochester Americans in regulation time, the Laval Rocket obtained their pass for the American Hockey League playoffs for the first time in their history on Sunday.

The Americans were defeated 2-0 by the Cleveland Monsters and incidentally allowed the Rocket, the Syracuse Crunch and the Belleville Senators to ensure a presence in the playoffs.

Jean-François Houle’s men currently sit third in the North Division and would face the Crunch in the first round in a best-of-five series if they were to start today.

The Montreal Canadiens’ school club settled in Laval during the 2017-2018 season and has not qualified for the playoffs since.

In the 2020-2021 season, however, the Rocket finished atop the Canadian AHL, but the Calder Cup was not contested due to COVID-19. He was rewarded with the Frank S. Mathers Trophy.

The Laval team has only three games left in the regular season. She will end her season on Saturday in Syracuse against the Crunch.
