The Rocket | Daniel Jacob back in Laval

In a series of events that could be described as creative, the Laval Rocket announced the hiring of Daniel Jacob as assistant coach.

Who will he be the assistant to? The mystery remains, because the Canadiens’ farm club has still not announced who will be the next head coach. In its report from 1er July 17, Kent Hughes teased a second round of interviews ahead of Monday, following a first wave of meetings ahead of the draft in Las Vegas.

Jacob will be in Laval for the second time. He served as Joël Bouchard’s assistant from 2018 to 2021, before following him to the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ farm club, for one season.

The Bouchard-Jacob duo spent last season with the Syracuse Crunch, the Lightning’s affiliate. Bouchard is still the head coach, but Jacob has left his position.

Before working behind the Rocket bench, Jacob was an assistant with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for four seasons, also with Bouchard.

Martin Laperrière is also expected behind the Rocket bench as an assistant this season. At least that’s what Hughes said Monday.

In short, the assistants are known: all that’s missing is a head coach.
