Campaigning for the early legislative elections scheduled for June 30 and July 7, the National Rally is beginning to unveil its program and in particular the reduction in VAT on fuel.

Gas, electricity, fuel. For all these energy expenses, the National Rally is committed in its program, if it comes to power, to lowering VAT from 20 to 5.5%. With the immediate effect, he promises, a reduction in the amount of bills for the French. Motorists are wondering. A shortfall financed in part by the elimination of the tax loophole granted to shipowners, and a drop in participation in the European Union budget.

Except that when it comes to fuel taxation, France is not alone in deciding. It should first negotiate with its European partners or risk being fined. If agreed, what impact for the consumer? On 1 liter of gasoline at 1.80 euros, for example, VAT currently represents 0.30 euros of the price. This would increase to 7 euro cents, or 23 cents in expected savings.
