The National Rally is not suspending its regional advisor in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Thomas Lutz, after his remarks on Thursday during the regional council, franceinfo learned on Friday April 12 from Julien Odoul, president of the RN group at the regional council. Thomas Lutz admitted to having said the German word “untermensch”, which means “subhumans”. This expression was notably used by the Nazis to describe people who did not correspond to the criteria of the “Aryan race”.

Julien Odoul deplores “regrettable comments that have no place”. He claims that Thomas Lutz was “called to order”. For his part, the regional advisor explains, in a press release, having “used in an inadequate, inappropriate and very unfortunate manner, the term ‘untermenschen’ to qualify the status of the opposition’s elected representatives in the regional council. I express my regrets for having used this word”, he continues.

The socialist president intends to file two complaints

The regional council meeting was suspended in the morning, after the RN elected officials held up posters with the inscriptions “foreign rapists out”. An action in support of the two activists from the far-right collective Nemesis arrested on Tuesday in Besançon with a sign bearing the same slogan. Julien Odoul assures that he does not “no regrets” regarding the posters which, according to him, do not evoke “not all foreigners”. This slogan “just conveys the message shared by a huge part of the French”he maintains.

The socialist president of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté regional council, Marie-Guite Dufay, announced her intention to file two complaints. One concerns the term used by Thomas Lutz, the other for “incitement to hatred” after the posters of the RN elected officials. For the latter, the president of the RN group denounces a complaint “absurd” and one “communication stunt”.
