Many people were pleased that the rise of the “extreme right” was contained during the last legislative elections in France. Perhaps they should not just crow about it and ask themselves about the causes of this rise. The economic precariousness of the poor, the deterioration of public services, triumphant communitarianism, uncontrolled immigration and insecurity are undoubtedly the main causes. It is a safe bet that if these problems are ignored, as they have been until now, no barrier will be able to prevent the rise of the “extreme right” from continuing until it comes to power.
