The increase in electricity prices from February 1 “is a government decision” because within the 10% increase including tax “what will make the difference will be the taxes”estimated Emmanuelle Wargon, Wednesday January 10 on franceinfo.

Currently, at the Energy Regulatory Commission, Emmanuelle Wargon’s teams are calculating electricity prices “for individuals” And “very small businesses”. They are supposed to offer a tax-free calculation to the government, “whose progression will be extremely limited compared to current prices“, promises its president, “below 10% progress”.

Significantly falling prices on the market

“Market prices have fallen significantly in 2023”recalls Emmanuelle Wargon. “The volume crisis” previous years, which had “transformed into a price crisis”has passed, “everything is getting back to normal” she adds. “We have a lot more gas, EDF is there, (…) we also have more wind power in France and that makes a difference, so prices on the markets have relaxed and that is good news.”

After limiting the increase in electricity prices thanks to its tariff shield deployed since the end of 2021, the government has decided “in the finance law” of “gradually re-increase taxes”. “Once again, this is not the responsibility of the Energy Regulatory Commission”, would like to highlight its president. Emmanuelle Wargon “waits” now to know the “precise tax level” set by the government, in order to define a calculation including tax which will contain this increase in electricity prices below 10% increase.
