the Ring of the Rhine will host a round of the world touring car championship this summer

A nice blow in Alsace and for the ring of the Rhine. It’s official since this Thursday noon, the circuit will welcome the August 6 and 7, a round of the WTCR World Touring Car Championship.

For several weeks, following the cancellation of the round planned in Russia because of the war in Ukraine, those in charge of the circuit have done everything to get the organization in Alsace.

A world exhibition for the Alsatian circuit

It is a major event which will be televised in 33 countries. He will touch between 10 and 15 million viewers.

The organizers are waiting on site, between 5 to 8,000 people over the two days. They have completed a budget of 700,000 euros, helped by local authorities. There will be practice on Saturday and the race on Sunday, with two 30-minute events where 18 drivers will compete.

“We want to highlight motorsport and Alsace. There is Yann and Yvon, but also Sébastien Loeb. We want to have a big party around that. It’s the love of France and Alsace for motorsport,” explains Joshua Reibel, the general manager of the Rhine ring.

On the circuit of 3 kilometers 700, there will be two Alsatians: Yvan Muller, four-time world champion in the discipline, and Yann Ehrlacher, double world champion and reigning world champion. They will both be driving their Lynk and Co.

“It’s the first time I’ve done such a competition in Alsace. I’ve done karts or the French rally, but never a race like that here,” rejoices Yvan Muller.

“It’s a circuit that will be narrower than the others. There are fast corners, slow corners, combinations. There’s a long straight and the first corner, it’s going to lead to accidents, but that’s what which makes the charm of discipline,” analyzes Yann Ehrlacher.

The two Alsatian pilots hope on the track of the Rhine ring, on their land, to shine in front of their public.
