The right-wing candidate and president of the Creuse Departmental Council, Valérie Simonet, is filing a complaint against an unknown person for digital harassment, France Bleu Creuse reported on Wednesday, July 3. The complaint was filed at the Guéret police station.

Valérie Simonet came third in the first round of the elections and decided to continue in the second round, despite several calls to withdraw. A diverse right-wing candidate, she told France Bleu Creuse that she was the victim of intimidation and threats on social media.

A petition is also circulating on the internet to urge her to withdraw. “I am very shocked by this petition that is circulating nationwide”explains Valérie Simonet. “Messages are pouring into my social networks, into my messaging, intimidating messages that look like threatening messages. And I wonder today about those who, supposedly with dignity, want to engage in a democratic process.”
