With an eighth wave of Covid-19 looming on Tuesday, October 4, the mask, which is recommended in enclosed spaces, could become mandatory again this winter.
As France enters an eighth wave of Covid-19, Tuesday October 4, the mask remains strongly recommended in closed places. However, the president of the monitoring committee, which replaces the Scientific Council, indicated that wearing a mask was recommended as often as possible. “Today, no one has reintroduced the obligation of the mask, but everyone is studying it”warns Brigitte Autran, president of the committee for monitoring and anticipating health risks (COVARS).
The mask could become compulsory again in certain places such as in transport. Although it does not provide 100% protection against the virus, the mask has proven itself. “We know very well that this mask is not airtight (…) but if you are contaminated while wearing the mask, you will have a much lower virus load”recalls Antoine Flahault, epidemiologist, director of the Institute of Global Health at the University of Geneva.
