“I announced that we were going to make the retrofit sector eligible for zero-rate loans” for people living in low emission zones, said Christophe Béchu, Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Tuesday, October 25 on franceinfo.

To encourage the purchase of electric vehicles, the government will help the French thanks to the “leasing at 100 euros” per month, “but also with retrofitting. Retrofitting consists of keeping your car but changing its engine for a cleaner engine. We believe in it a lot because it avoids remanufacturing a car and it makes things simpler. There are 20 million euros which were released on the sidelines of the Motor Show a few days ago. This morning, I announced that we were going to make the retrofit sector eligible for zero-rate loans” for people living in low emission zones.

For the occasion, “aid will be as high as for new”, assured Christophe Béchu. The Minister regrets that currently there is no “enough used cars”.

“A modest household living in the Paris region can benefit, if they exchange their old car, from a premium of 1,000 euros in ecological bonus, 1,000 euros in ZFE and 5,000 euros to change his vehicle. So, if he can find a vehicle for 10,000 euros, he has a balance to pay which is only 3,000″, explained Christophe Béchu. French and European manufacturers are committed, “a few days ago” to manufacture “electric cars at low prices”.
