The prosecution rules out a recovery “of criminal origin” the Landiras fire, in Gironde, which ravaged 7,400 hectares. “There is no element to lean towards a criminal origin”, said Tuesday, August 16 the parquet floor of Bordeaux. The fire broke out in mid-July, and resumed on August 9.

The criminal thesis is on the other hand, always privileged concerning the first departures of fire on the sector. A judicial investigation has been opened on the criminal counts of “destruction by fire”. According to the public prosecutor Frédérique Porterie, three other investigations have also been opened for fires “of criminal origin” which broke out in the municipalities of Soulac, Vensac and Blanquefort.

Some 650 firefighters were still mobilized on Tuesday to neutralize the many hot spots around Landiras. Of all the firefighters mobilized, nearly half are part of the European contingent deployed on site as part of the European Union’s civil protection mechanism, according to the firefighters.
