After having to refuse “more than 110 000 last winter”, the Restos du coeur will “refuse a little less” beneficiaries this winter, indicated Friday September 27 on France Inter the spokesperson for the Restaurants. “But we won’t be able to accommodate everyone, still not”regrets Yves Mérillon. He was on France Inter for the launch of Radio Restos from Friday evening to Sunday.

After the call for help launched last winter, the Restaurants “recovered some room for maneuver […] but the situation is not saved yet”explains the spokesperson for the Restos who wants to give priority this year to early childhood. “126 000 children of 0 at 3 years are beneficiaries of the Restaurants“, believes Yves Mérillon, “i.e. 10% of the people welcomed”. “A considerable number”, he deplores, even if this figure is “roughly stable for two, three years”.

Until Sunday, hosts will take turns 24 hours a day on Radio Restos broadcast on the web, to collect donations for the 40th Restos campaign. “The objective is to be able to cover the entire needs of these babies up to three years old”by offering baby kits consisting of diapers, small pots and milk. This is the fifth edition of Radio Restos.

“We welcome the poorest of all the poor”warns the Restaurants spokesperson. “70% of people earn less than the poverty line, that is to say less than 600 euros per month”underlines Yves Mérillon. In 2023, the association welcomed more than 1.3 million people compared to 1.1 million in 2022.
