Ukrainian soldiers claim, Saturday, October 1, to have entered the strategic town of Lyman, in the Donetsk region annexed by the Russians who are in difficulty on several fronts.
Behind a sign, Ukrainian soldiers wave their flag and claim to be returned in the agglomeration of the city of Lyman. “Today, October 1, we unfurl our national flag and plant it again on our land”they say in a video. The railway town was strategic for the Kremlin. It was part of the territories annexed with great fanfare by Vladimir Putin on Friday, September 30.
This is yet another setback for Russia. 5,000 Russian soldiers were stationed in Lyman. “Threatened with encirclement, the Russian troops were withdrawn from Lyman to more favorable lines”announced Igor Konashenkovthe spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry. In city more to the north, vehicles are riddled with bullets. The surviving Ukrainians say they were fleeing the Russian soldiers who attacked them. An investigation has been opened.
