The Salle Pleyel pit is packed with people this Saturday, May 7. Mogwai audiences rush to get the best seats: “We are not far from the spiritual experience!” emphasizes Bruno, 48, a fan for almost twenty years.
The album displayed in the background eBy way of decor, the artists arrive on the boards of Pleyel with modesty. The calm before the storm… The public, impatient after the postponement of the event, is ready to experience what one fan summarizes as “a powerful and contrasting immersive experience offering moments of supersonic sonic explosion”.
The Parisian concert opens the ball for a French mini-tour of the Scottish group. A return to France that delighted Mogwai, especially its guitarist and leader, Stuart Braithwaite: “My sister lived in France, I spent a lot of time there. People are always very warm towards our music here.”
The group has chosen five titles from their new opus, including Ritchie Sacramento, only track with lyrics. “It’s the only composition on the album where the lyrics worked perfectly well.”, says the group. A title highlighted by the clear and subtle acoustics of the Salle Pleyel.
With As The Love Continues, the group signs a album that wants to be more peaceful. “He wants to be optimistic, probably to get out of this stressful period during which it was produced”confides the leader of the group. Sounds certainly a little softer and melodic, but everything is relative! Mogwai always fills his ears, exploding the authorized standards.
The repeated confinements greatly complicated the birth and recording of this new opus. “Originally, we were supposed to record it in America, but nobody could travel during the pandemic. So we had to change our plans… ” regret Stuart Braithwaite.
That hasn’t stopped post-rockers from offering a new psychedelic journey: “With Mogwai, what is certain is that the quality is always there” rejoices Kévin, 36, twenty concerts to his credit.
