The threat of Russian invasion is getting closer every day in Odessa, southern Ukraine. The population that remained in the city served the war effort.

Usually lively and joyful, Odessa (Ukraine) is today in slow motion, and on the defensive. Each company is now working on resistance to a possible Russian assault. In the basement of a building, a sewing workshop manufactures warm underwear for soldiers, and bulletproof vests. Before, seamstresses made evening dresses, “to party”.

In a restaurant, no more football and beer evenings. The chef, Viktor Titof, is now concentrating on supplying the soldiers. “The atmosphere was really good. Now it’s no longer a restaurant, it’s a food stock for the soldiers. It’s very hard. We were happy, and we find ourselves like that”, he laments. In the kitchens, the employees work for free. Schools, closed, are transformed into rear bases, with flags ready to serve in the corridors. Russian forces are located, Wednesday, March 9, 130 km from the city.
