Government: reshuffle at an impasse?
While several political figures act as contenders for the post of Prime Minister, everything seems possible, including the retention of Élisabeth Borne. – (France 2)
While several political figures act as contenders for the post of Prime Minister, everything seems possible, including the retention of Élisabeth Borne.
The wait for a reshuffle never ends. There is no profile that exactly matches the desire of Emmanuel Macron and the various partners of the majority. There is the Minister of Defense, Sébastien Lecornu, who is one of the contenders for the post of Prime Minister. He’s someone who comes from the right. This may appeal to part of the right and MPs. The problem is that there are certain members of the majority, like François Bayrou, who are rather reluctant, because they consider that we must keep this “at the same time”.
Which line to give?
Another contender: Julien Denormandie. He was Emmanuel Macron’s minister for Housing and Agriculture. The problem is that he was never elected, which will not be obvious in a relative majority in the National Assembly, even if he truly embodies the DNA of Macronism. This also lasts beyond the casting, because it must have political meaning: what line should we give? Emmanuel Macron’s advisors are not very clear on this. Finally, the President of the Republic wants a performer, which excludes figures, like Bruno Le Maire, explains Guillaume Daret, political journalist at France Télévisions.
