The deputies and senators Les Républicains (LR) intend to present a bill on immigration before the start of the summer, according to information from France Inter on Friday April 14, obtained from parliamentary sources. “Where the government retreats, we advance”, boasts the general secretary of LR, Annie Genevard. At the end of March, in the midst of a protest against the pension reform, Emmanuel Macron announced that the immigration bill, ready to be examined by the senators, would be “rearranged” and cut into “several texts”.

LR, divided during the examination of the pension reform, wants to make this bill a collective work, involving all its parliamentarians. Senator François-Noël Buffet’s report, delivered last May, will serve as the basis for this new text, which will focus on expulsions, family reunification, social rights, and language learning.
This initiative was born during a dinner between tenors of LR, Tuesday evening. Around the table: the president of LR, Éric Ciotti, Annie Genevard but also Gérard Larcher, the president of the Senate, Bruno Retailleau, the president of the LR group in the Senate and Olivier Marleix, his counterpart in the National Assembly. The challenge is to recreate the training and put forward proposals before the government does. “We are a party of government”insists one of the participants in this dinner.
