The remains of Franco-Israeli hostage Elya Toledano have been recovered in Gaza, the Israeli army announced Friday, December 15. His body, identified by forensic doctors, was recovered during an operation carried out in the Palestinian enclave by army special forces and repatriated to Israel. This 28-year-old man was one of 240 hostages kidnapped by Hamas during the October 7 attack.

The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, announced on “tremendous pain” upon the announcement of the death of Elya Toledano. “We share the pain of his family and loved ones. The release of all the hostages is our priority”she added. The Israeli army presents its sincere condolences to the family.”, she added in a press release, ensuring that the young man’s relatives had been informed of the discovery of his body before this public declaration. Crif also paid tribute to him by writing on X (ex-Twitter) that his thoughts accompany “his close friends and family”.

“He would have been kidnapped [et emmené] in Gazahis brother Daniel testified on BFMTV. It is Israeli intelligence that gives us this information.” Elya Toledano was also a friend of Franco-Israeli hostage Mia Schem, a 21-year-old woman released by Hamas on November 30 and with whom he was at the Supernova music festival during the terrorist attacks.
