The government presented an amending budget to finance new spending on Thursday 7 July. The Court of Auditors, which looked into it, expressed doubts.

What is the position of the Court of Auditors on the government’s amending budget? “Doubts and warnings, first about public spending, much higher than expected”, indicates journalist Jean-Paul Chapel, present, Thursday, July 7, on the set of 20 Hours. An additional 35 billion euros will be spent “to protect the wallet of the French”. They correspond to the measures announced during the day and to the old ones, such as the tariff shield on gas and electricity, as well as the expenses incurred, ie 18 billion more for the debt burden.

“The State can no longer go into debt at zero interest, and according to the Court of Auditors, this bill could still increase”, adds the journalist. Revenues are also increasing “through jobs and growth”. The government forecasts an increase of 2.5% in 2022. The Court of Auditors, however, warns. “This growth is very much based on consumption, which risks being dampened by rising prices”, explains Jean-Paul Chapel. The government announces a deficit of 5% of GDP. “But according to the Court of Auditors, it could get out of hand…”concludes the journalist.
