Has Romania become the El Dorado for French medical students? They go in search of a diploma recognized at European level and there are currently nearly 1,000 in the country. This is three times more than ten years ago.

However, at medical university, it is common to hear French spoken. For 15 years, the Medical University of Iasi has offered a French-speaking sector. Their salvation comes at a cost: 7,500 euros per year for six years. The price of an education system that also suits them more. “In France, there were 450 per class, here there are 70”, explained a 1st year student. The teachers are all Romanian but many have done part of their studies in France. This arrival of the French does not only make people happy, the Romanians have to take an entrance exam. Their arrival, with greater purchasing power, also caused the price of real estate in Iasi to soar.
