Small revolution in mailboxes: La Poste announces the end of the red stamp. To send a priority letter, it will now be necessary to go through the internet. The sending of urgent missives has collapsed in France in recent years.
The red stamp will disappear on January 1, 2023. It gives way to the digital stamp. The French are divided. “I don’t know how you send a letter like that”says a woman. “I’m still over 80 years old, but I have a computer, I manage. But not everyone is in this case”, adds a man. Another is delighted to limit waiting times at La Poste.
Customers must send their priority mail online, on the La Poste website. Vending machines will also be available in the offices. If there are any documents to attach, they will need to be scanned. The email will be printed in the sorting center closest to the recipient, and distributed by the postman. Transport costs had become too high for the company. The digital red letter will cost 1.49 euros including envelope and paper, which is 6 cents more than the current priority stamp. The green stamp will take one more day for delivery, but its price will remain the same.
