The rector of the Nancy-Metz academy calms things down before the start of the school year

Will there be “a teacher in front of each student” at the start of the school year in Lorraine? While 4,000 positions have not been filled in the teacher competitions according to figures from the Ministry of National Education, the rector of the Nancy-Metz academy ensures that the situation is similar to previous years. “Even better than last year“, specifies Richard Laganier, insisting that in fields such as letters, English and mathematics, the positions are well supplied.

A “back-to-school human resources unit”

However, to fine-tune the final adjustments, the rectorate has launched a “back-to-school human resources unit”, made up of about ten people mobilized since yesterday until mid-September. Their mission: to finalize the last assignments by making the link between the needs of the heads of establishments on one side, and the teachers without post for the moment on the other.

The mission of this cell, composed mainly of former heads of establishments now retired, is also to guide the “contractual”, these teachers without CAPES and without experience in front of a class. For them who represent 8.7% of the workforce in secondary education on the region, it is often a leap into the deep end.

Helping contractors “manage classes”

So to prepare them, the National Education offers three to four days of training, in order to provide them with the tools that they may lack. “These contractors have mastery of their discipline, we are sure of that.assures Richard Laganier. What they lack is more the mastery of the class, the problem around the posture of the teacher in his authority and in the assessment and rating process. This is what we bring them first.

These few days of training, under the supervision of academy inspectors, will then be followed support throughout the school year, articulated under the name “academic school of continuing education”. “The challenge for us is that these contract workers can eventually pass the competition and fully integrate our education system“, adds the academic rector of the Grand-Est.

Nothing tells me that there won’t be a few absences

For these 1,300 contractors in Lorraine, it is therefore a long process that begins, just a few days before the start of the 2022-2023 school year. “I’m not worried, I’m even very confidentreassures Richard Laganier, before bouncing back on the statements of the Minister of National Education. But I can’t say that there will be a teacher in front of each student, because nothing tells me that there won’t be a few absences on September 1 out of the 30,000 positions at the academy.. ” Parents of students are warned.
