“The reception capacities will be found”Didier Leschi, Director General of the French Office for Immigration and Integration (Ofii), said Monday, February 28 on franceinfo, while according to UN figures, 500,000 Ukrainian refugees fled the conflict with Russia for four days.

“France is getting ready”explained Didier Leschi. “However, the will of the Ukrainians will be important. Do they want to come to France or do they want to go primarily to countries where they already have links?”he wonders, detailing that “France is not the first country in terms of Ukrainian community present on its territory, since there are approximately 18,000 Ukrainians who today have a residence permit.”

“The problem is not the first reception. The first reception, we will be able to do”he assures. “For example, we have accommodation for asylum seekers which can be extended. The question is not that of initial reception, but of long-term reception, that is to say housing and the payment of rents. How and by whom? These are the questions that must be asked.”
