In Yellowstone, in the United States, bison are back in the park’s grasslands. Enough to attract tourists, who take risks by approaching them too closely.
In the American West, it is possible to come across the American bison, the emblematic animal of the country. Although it had almost disappeared a century ago, it is slowly regaining ground. However, its rebirth is hampered by the unconsciousness of some visitors, who underestimate its power and its danger. They get too close to take photos.
In Yellowstone National Park, dawn is the best time to observe wildlife. “You really have to observe their body language.”explains a young woman visiting to see the bison. “Bison can be very dangerous […] These animals can run up to 50 km/h”says Rick Wallen, a biologist who has worked at the park for 40 years. The park recommends a safe distance of about 25 meters when approaching them.
