The president of the La France insoumise group in the National Assembly, MP Mathilde Panot, announced on Tuesday April 23 that she had received a summons from the police as part of an investigation for “apology of terrorism”. The far-left elected official affirms that this summons “is based” on a press release published on October 7 by the parliamentary group, after the Hamas attack against Israel.
“This is the first time in the entire history of the Fifth Republic that the president of an opposition group in the National Assembly has been summoned for such a serious reason”assured the elected official. “My client will respond to this summons and there can be no doubt as to the legal outcome that will be given as none of her comments can be qualified in this way”for her part reacted her lawyer to France Télévisions.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, for his part, denounced on the social network A “unprecedented event in the history of our democracy” aiming to “protecting a genocide”. On October 7, the LFI group published a text which sparked controversy because it particularly paralleled the Hamas attack, described as “an armed offensive by Palestinian forces”And “the intensification of the Israeli occupation policy” in the Palestinian territories.
