Mathilde Panot, president of the parliamentary group of La France insoumise in the National Assembly, denounced on Thursday July 11 on franceinfo “a presidential coup that denies the result of the ballot boxes since the coalition of the new Popular Front came out on top in the second round of the legislative elections.” Anger was provoked by the publication the day before in the regional press of a letter to the French signed by Emmanuel Macron. In it, the president states that “nobody took it away” in the legislative elections and ask the “republican forces” of “building a solid majority.”

“I am worried about the seizure of power by the President of the Republic and Macron’s party,” specifies Mathilde Panot, while the president also asked for “allow some time to build compromises.”

“A few days before the 14th July, which notably put an end to the old regime and where we celebrate the sovereignty of the people, I believe that it is a very worrying signal to deny in this way the result of the ballot box and, in a way, to re-establish a veto of a monarch who denies universal suffrage”, adds Mathilde Panot.
