The president of the Radical Left Party (PRG), Guillaume Lacroix, announced on Monday February 14 that his party was “withdrawn” of the candidacy of Christiane Taubira, which stagnates around 3% in the polls.

“There is no break, no break” with the candidacy of Christiane Taubira, did he however defend himself, specifying that, according to him, “the very clear mandate, from the start” was from“accompany a dynamic of rallying on the left” and no “specifically support” the candidacy of the former Keeper of the Seals. As a reminder, Christiane Taubira was a long-time member of the PRG, for which she was the candidate in the 2002 presidential election. She then won 2.32% of the vote.

In a press release, Guillaume Lacroix continues: “Christiane Taubira has decided to continue her approach within the framework of a citizen campaign which cannot be the reflection of the PRG alone. In return, our party cannot be solely responsible or accountable for the continuation of this campaign.” The party official recalls that the party’s elected officials are free in their sponsorships. “Therefore, it is in good law and in conscience that a certain number will not give their signature to Christiane Taubira. Others, just as freely, have already and will continue to support her approach.”

He clarified that his sponsorship “will leave tonight” in favor of the former Minister of Justice. Despite her victory in the Popular Primary, Christiane Taubira is stagnating in the polls and there are many questions about the continuation of her campaign, twenty days before the deadline for sponsorship deposits. On Monday morning, she called out her supporters on Twitter to “give for the campaign”, “not to give up this election”.
