After years of crisis without a solution, the Argentines, who chose the ultraliberal Javier Milei, voted against the political elite and against the center-left government in power for four years, which they considered too interventionist. “The majority of Argentines want change. And this change, today, is Milei who embodies it“, says one man.
An anti-system vote
Javier Milei’s core electorate is made up of men, young people and the working classes, notably millions of undeclared workers in the construction or commerce sectors. They represent 45% of employment in Argentina. This is an anti-system vote, often more than a vote of conviction. But will the new president, who has neither a majority in Congress nor local governors belonging to his coalition, keep his promises?
