Grégoire de Fournas, deputy of the National Rally, caused an outcry in the National Assembly, Thursday, November 3, by making racist remarks. The left and the majority demand sanctions.
During the session of questions to the government, Thursday, November 3 at the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet gave the floor to Carlos Martens Bilongo, deputy of La France insoumise. While he was speaking on the situation of migrants in the Mediterranean, a cry arose from the benches of the National Rally. A racist arrest was launched by an RN deputy, Grégoire de Fournas. The left and the majority claim that he declared “Go back to Africa!”. The Assembly ignited, and the president of the hemicycle had to suspend the session. “Today, I was sent back to my skin color. I was born in France, I am a French deputy and I did not think that at the National Assembly, I was going to be insulted”reacts Carlos Martens Bilongo.
“When I said ‘let them go back to Africa’, I was not talking about the MP who was asking the question, I was talking about the migrant smuggling boat”, defends the deputy RN. Yaël Braun-Pivet claims to have heard “Go back to Africa” and explains that “staff is in charge of the report”. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne assures that “Racism has no place in our democracy”. The office of the Assembly will meet on Friday November 4 to decide on sanctions against the deputy. La France insoumise asks for his exclusion for several months, the majority his resignation.
