The Quebec Remparts lose Patrick Roy and Jacques Tanguay

Patrick Roy leaves the Remparts, barely a week after the crowning of the organization at the Memorial Cup. His accomplice, businessman Jacques Tanguay, is also stepping down after 22 years presiding over the team’s destiny.

The June 5 triumph in Kamloops sealed the famous head coach’s departure. “Leaving in a context like this, I can’t dream of a better scenario,” explained Patrick Roy. The trigger was without a shadow of a doubt the Memorial Cup victory. »

Patrick Roy and his accomplice Jacques Tanguay, businessman and president of the Remparts, therefore leave haloed by glory. Their last season looks like a coronation. The Red Devils lifted the Gilles-Courteau trophy awarded to the QMJHL champions, a triumph not tasted since 1976, when Michel Goulet and Kevin Lowe played in his uniform. On June 5, it was on the Canadian scene that the Remparts confirmed their domination of major junior hockey by winning the prestigious Memorial Cup.

The 2022-2023 season will have represented the culmination of an adventure that began in 1996, when Jacques Tanguay, Michel Cadrin and Patrick Roy acquired the Harfangs de Beauport to resuscitate the Remparts the following season. Quebec reconnected both with its Red Devils who had disappeared for 12 years and with one of its prodigal sons, Patrick Roy, born in 1965 in the capital to become one of the most adored goalkeepers in history.

The latter engraved his name four times on the Stanley Cup and three times on the Conn-Smythe Trophy awarded to the most valuable player of the playoff round. This is a record: still to this day, no player has obtained this honor on so many occasions.
