The Quebec government adds eight deaths to the toll of COVID-19 and reports a slight increase in hospitalizations.

No deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours, but the toll has increased with five deaths occurring between two and seven days ago, and three deaths occurring more than seven days ago. The total of deaths stands at 16,441 since the start of the pandemic.

There were 1,638 hospitalizations, including 574 due to COVID-19, an increase of three from the previous day. There were 31 people in intensive care, including 17 due to COVID-19, one patient less than the previous day.

The Ministry of Health reported 905 new cases, although the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

As for health care workers, 3,583 were absent for reasons related to COVID-19, such as preventive withdrawal or isolation.

A total of 191 rapid tests were self-reported for Wednesday, including 169 positives. The total stands at 285,291 self-reported rapid tests so far, including 239,014 positives.

In terms of vaccination, 17,941 doses administered are added, for a total of 20,844,341 doses administered in Quebec.
