The Quebec Cinema Gala will be broadcast on Noovo

(Montreal) After being abandoned by Radio-Canada, the Gala Québec Cinéma has found a new broadcaster: Noovo.

Bell Media, owner of Noovo, announced on Wednesday that a new version of the gala would be presented on December 10. The event will celebrate its 25e anniversary.

The chairman of the board of directors of Quebec Cinema, Patrick Roy, was delighted with this news, affirming that the gala “remains the best way to recognize and celebrate the artists, artisans and creators who make our cinematography so rich”.

Noovo promises a “revisited” formula, which, according to Mr. Roy, will aim to “give a taste” of Quebec cinema.

The Minister of Culture, Mathieu Lacombe, also welcomed this announcement, since according to him, it was “unthinkable” that the gala would no longer be broadcast on television.

Radio-Canada announced last October that the Gala Québec Cinéma would no longer be broadcast on its airwaves. The public broadcaster had explained that it would put in place “new strategies” to promote local cinema and artists.

A variety show will be presented, and a special edition of Jean-Philippe Wauthier’s show, Good evening will also be concocted.

This decision had been denounced by several actors in the field, including Quebec Cinema and the Society for the Development of Cultural Enterprises (SODEC).

Noovo will provide more details on the gala at a later date.
