Faced with the fifth wave of Covid-19, cancellations of festivities are increasing in the municipalities. This could be the case in Montauban-de-Bretagne (Ille-et-Vilaine), where the town hall plans to cancel its vows ceremony, to which 400 guests are expected.
A second year without vows, in Montauban-de-Bretagne (Ille-et-Vilaine)? The event, scheduled for early January, was to accommodate 400 people. Unthinkable just a few days ago, the hypothesis is gaining ground, as the fifth wave of Covid-19 hits France. “It’s difficult to make a decision, because it’s a meeting place, all people are happy to meet”, confides Serge Jalu, the mayor (DVG) of the city.
On the market, on the morning of Wednesday 8 December, the possibility of a cancellation of wishes is well understood by locals. “If it is for the good of the population, I think it should be done”, relative a woman. These cancellations strongly affect the events sector. David Denoual, caterer for “Aux saveurs Denoual”, has already lost three contracts for the end of the year. Canceling vows would be a big blow. He also fears for the evening of New Year’s Eve, which represents 70% of its activity and 22,000 euros of its turnover.
