The Pure Salmon project is definitively abandoned in Landacres

The Pure Salmon project in Landacres has been definitively abandoned. This Friday, March 25, the company announced that its salmon production unit will not open in Landacresnear Hesdin l’Abbé.

10,000 tons of fish are said to have been produced in this aquaculture farm

This project initiated in January 2020 had aroused many criticisms, in particular from elected environmentalists. The land was all found, an area of 17 hectares which belongs to a farmer. The production unit should have been inaugurated by 2024. But the project encountered many oppositionselected ecologists and associations.

It is above all the water consumption of future buildings that has challenged public opinion, with several hundred m3 of water per day. This investment of 175 million euros was to be the largest salmon farm of France with a promise of more than 160 jobs which therefore did not meet with unanimous approval. The mayor of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Frédéric Cuvillier, had nevertheless supported the project.

Pure Salmon cites lack of access to salt water on the selected site in Landacres. In connection with the urban community of Boulonnais, the company has not found any other place to set up in Boulonnais. Pure Salmon is therefore starting from scratch, looking for a site that could provide it with sufficient salt water consumption, probably in Gironde.
