The president of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Iris Knobloch, discusses with Augustin Trapenard about the new generation of women directors and the short film “Moi aussi” by Judith Godrèche presented during the event.

Iris Knobloch, president of the Cannes Film Festival, deplores that “Most of the big budgets in Hollywood still go to men.” According to her, this could be linked to “a reflex in the sub-conscious that gives a man more confidence in being able to manage a big budget”. However, she is certain: mentalities and society are evolving and changing. Evolution is underway, according to her. Louise Courvoisier, Gatry Dinger, Noémie Merlant… She cites as an example this new generation of young directors who “inspires” him. For Iris Knobloch, it is “clear and wonderful” that “the public wants to hear women’s stories” .

She recalls that it is essential to take risks in life and says she is very happy “that today, women also take risks, leave their comfort zone”. The presentation by Judith Godrèche of her short film “Me Too” was one of the highlights of the Festival for the president. “I am extremely proud that women’s words have been liberated.” Even more, she underlines the fact that these words are now “heard”. This is the big difference she has noticed over the last few years. She finally encourages “these women who knew how to express themselves with a lot of strength and a lot of courage” to continue to do so.
