The Paris public prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday April 27 that it was appealing the acquittal pronounced by the Criminal Court against Airbus and Air France in the Rio-Paris crash case. Justice had exonerated the two companies, on April 17, judging that, if “mistakes” had been committed, “no certain causal link” with the accident had “could be demonstrated”.

The European manufacturer and the airline were prosecuted for manslaughter, after the disaster that occurred in 2009 which claimed the lives of 228 people. By appealing against this judgment, the public prosecutor’s office intends to give “their full effect to the remedies provided by law”he said in a press release.

During its indictment, the prosecution had not requested any sentence for the two groups, to the great regret of the civil parties. These legal proceedings have already lasted more than a decade, with a dismissal in 2019 and a trial finally ordered by the Paris Court of Appeal in 2021.
