Tuesday, August 30, property taxes are up in several cities in France. In Marseille, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, or in Tours, in Indre-et-Loire, it increased by more than 15% in one year.
Some owners have already received their property tax on Tuesday, August 30. In Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), it should increase by 11.5% in 2022. “The housing tax no longer exists, so you have to find somewhere else”, comments a man. Another resident understands having to pay these taxes, but would like to know how the money is used. The town hall responds by claiming to invest massively in schools.
For a real estate agent, the increase in the property tax scares away new buyers. “Having a property tax that increases so sharply, necessarily does not encourage buyers”, assures Arnaud Tostivint, associate director of Imméa Immobili. The property tax must increase by 16.5% in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), 15.4% in Tours (Indre-et-Loire) and 12.6% in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). With public lighting or the treatment of household waste, the expenses of the municipalities are greater while the allocations of the State decrease.
